ABOUT TAMWORTH CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH

We are a covenant community which worships Christ the King through holy living and patient suffering, serving one another sacrificially, and sharing the word of God with the world. We are an independent church with a high view of Scripture. We believe expository Bible preaching is the best method, although not the only one. Martyn Lloyd Jones said, “The primary task of the church and of the Christian minister is the preaching of the Word of God.” In the year 2024, Pastor Steve is preaching through 1 and 2 Peter on Sunday mornings at 10:00 AM. We are learning about Reformed Theology in our 6:00 PM Sunday evening Bible study. 

OUR LEADERSHIP

Our leadership consists of pastor Steve Wuori and elder John Hartley.
Pastor Steve was born and raised in New England. He is married to Veronica and the Lord has blessed them with four children. They were missionaries in the Amazon jungle of Ecuador for 11 years where Steve planted churches among two different indigenous groups and founded an elementary school. The family later relocated to Ecuador's capital city where Steve served as a licensed preacher in a United Reform Church plant and Administrative Director of an international Christian school. He has served as our pastor since June 2022. Steve is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree from New Geneva Theological Seminary. He loves the Reformers, Puritans, and Pilgrims, and the contributions these groups have made to further Christ's kingdom.

SUNDAY WORSHIP

We gather to worship the risen Lord every Sunday morning at 10:00 AM. Children's Sunday School begins at 9:15 AM for ages 6 - 12.  Sunday evening Bible study is at 6:00 PM and Monday prayer meeting at 7:00 PM. We have a traditional service and sing the great hymns of the Christian faith. We are easy to find, located next to Barnstormers in downtown Tamworth on Cleveland Hill Road. There is parking next to the church and a lot across the street. Some of us dress formally and others casually. All are welcome to join us in worship. Our congregation consists of both children and adults, and we encourage the biblical practice of all of God's people worshiping together. However, there is a lobby if you feel the need to step out at any time. Join us! We hope to see you soon.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

We believe
There is one true God eternally existing in three persons; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit;
In the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, vicarious atonement, His bodily resurrection, and ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal future return to the earth in power and glory;
The Bible is the infallible word of God inspired by the Holy Spirit and without error;
In the total depravity of man whereby man is born dead in sin and incapable of pleasing God;
The only way of salvation is through repentance and faith in Christ;
Regeneration by the Holy Spirit through faith alone is necessary for salvation;
In the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit for all life and godliness;
The church equips believers in the fullness of knowledge of Christ through preaching, teaching, prayer, and fellowship to the glory of Jesus Christ in all the earth;
In the blessed hope, the imminent return of Jesus Christ;
All those who die in God's grace through faith are assured eternal salvation. Those who die in a state of sin and unbelief suffer the punishment of eternity in hell;
In the resurrection of the saved and the lost, the saved to everlasting life and the lost to eternal condemnation;
God has commissioned believers to be a witness of Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth, baptizing in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost and teaching all that Christ commanded;
Marriage is ordained by God and is between one man and one woman. 

CHURCH USE

We do not rent or lend the church to non-members or organizations.


PSALM 1

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; for the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.
